Bio

I am a student, a lifelong learner, an educator, and a Colorado native.  I recently returned to Denver a year ago to begin my journey as a graduate student at the University of Denver.  My road into education both professionally and academically has been an interesting journey.  I have had many experiences that have allowed me to grow as a student, an educator and as an individual.  Before beginning my graduate education at the University of Denver I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television with a Minor in Spanish from Kansas State University.  I initially chose this course of study because of my fascination with the media and my interest in media development, technology, and broadcasting. I completed an internship at a local radio station working as an on-air talent and an assistant to the General Manager, AM/FM Program Directors and Music Director. After completing my internship and several volunteer positions within the broadcasting industry, I felt that there was something I was missing in this field.  I have always had a strong passion in the value of education, I love working with children, and most of all I wanted to establish lasting connections with a variety of different people and in my community.

I moved to Austin, TX and began working at a bilingual elementary school as an educational aide in special education.  In this field I had the opportunity to work with children ranging from Kindergarten to 5th Grade from both the regular education and bilingual education programs.  These children were particularly unique because they all had experienced some difficulties learning.  I found my previous experience in Mass Communication to be a great assistance in this process.  With my experience in different areas of media I was able to find a variety of ways to approach the academic content in engaging ways.  This experience stuck with me and led me to look into a variety of different certification programs to become a classroom teacher.  I completed an alternative certification program and was hired on as Kindergarten teacher.

When I returned to Denver a little over a year ago after three years in Austin, TX.  I began a flexible dual Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Denver.  I am excited to begin a new journey professionally and academically.  Personally, I am entering a wonderful time in my life as well.  I am recently engaged, have a wonderful new home, I have been able to reconnect with family and friends, and spend wonderful time with my two dogs, Farley and Ralphie.  I am always anticipating and excited for the next adventure around the corner and look forward to what the future holds for me.
